| In March of 2010, Yong Zhao, University Distinguished Professor from Michigan State University, presented his perspective on the No Child Left Behind law by discussing the educational recommendations he included in his book entitled Catching Up or Leading the Way: American Education in the Age of Globalization. |

| MFPE Treasurer, Fern Ettinger, introduced the guest speaker, Mark Fancher, at our December 7, 2009 meeting. Mr. Fancher, ACLU Michigan's Racial Justice Project Attorney, spoke on "Reclaiming Michigan's Throwaway Kids." |

Fran Anderson, the MFPE Chair, was chosen to receive the "Dorothy Beardmore Service to Education Award." The award was presented by State Board of Education President, Kathleen Straus, at the August 14, 2007 State Board of Education meeting. Many MFPE members were in attendance and joined Fran in celebration as she received this most prestigious honor.
